How Single Malt and Maps was Created, Why it was created and a short Bio of each team member.

Making a name for yourself

The YouTube channel was originally created by Evan as a way to document his trips. In 2015 the channel was born and began hosting videos, but it didn't have a name. Evan considered different names over the years but nothing fell into place.
Rich joined Evan on a trip in the fall of 2017 and took an interest in creating the content for the YouTube channel. The two started investing in better camera equipment and focused on constantly improving the quality of their videos. Rich and Evan would often spend their evenings having a glass of Scotch and looking over countless maps. They would try to find unique routes, feasible loops and points of interest. When someone would ask what they were doing they would reply "Scotch and Maps"
One afternoon while trying to think up a great name for the YouTube channel this frequently used phrase of Scotch and Maps was reworked into the Single Malt and Maps name that exists today.

Evan

Evan has been planning and completing trips to the Ontario backcountry since August of 2012. It all started with overnight/weekend hiking trips to Frontenac Provincial Park which then lead to completing the  “Frontenac All Season Challenge” in 2013.
The next challenge to tackle then became Algonquin Provincial Park and its endless lakes and rivers to explore.
Since the summer of 2014 the goal has been to complete as many trips as possible to the Park, which typically results in 2-3 multi-day adventures per year.
The ongoing goal is to cover as many lakes and rivers as we can, plus find plenty of remote corners of the park to enjoy.
Finding the proper work / life / camping balance is always a challenge, but his 2 children and wife have been very accommodating.
Hopefully they will take in their father’s footsteps and also look forward to spending as much time as they can in a canoe, walking the trails, and taking in the beauty of our Provincial Parks.

Hopefully we can run into you in the Park, but until then safe travels!
 - Evan

Ryan

Ryan F.N McMillan - Single Malt and Maps strong silent type. Not much is known about this mysterious figure. Legend has it he loves having the wind at his back while he's sailing away.

Rich

Rich - Summers in his youth meant two things. Camping close to Bon Echo Park or playing on the shores of the Northumberland Strait in Nova Scotia. Each of these meant a lot of time outdoors and around the water.

As an adult the outdoor activity time began to shrink and the adventures changed from days of fishing, canoeing, sunburns and sandcastles to a quick walk at a local conservation area. Those around him all seemed to busy for a challenging outdoor experience as well.

Rich jumped at the chance to join Evan on a trip in 2017. After that trip he joined every trip from that point forward.

When he is in the canoe he is probably singing. If he is on the portage trail there is a good chance that he is complaining, and at some point on the trip, no matter how tough things get you can guarantee that him and his friends will be laughing.

"When life hands you wild blueberries, you eat those blueberries!"
-Rich
